Investment Property On Majorca

Majorca is one of the Spanish Balearic islands in the Mediterranean. The other main ones are Ibiza and Minorca. The island's capital is the historic city of Palma. It's a fairly large city, the twelfth largest in Spain. Palma dates back to Roman times, but started to prosper under the occupation of the Moors from North Africa in the ninth century and then again after being re-taken by the Catholics in 1229.

This ancient history makes the city a very attractive place for tourism with ancient buildings and structures such as the Gothic Cathedral that took over 500 hundred years to build and the stunning Almudaina Palace. The Almudaina Palace, standing on the waterfront, is an incredible sight in the evening when the building is ablaze with floodlights. This is the jewel in Majorca's crown.

The city, at the same time, is also very chic and modern, with all the expected facilities any large modern city has to offer. And over the last few years there have been huge advances in the city's infrastructure, new roads, major waterside developments and huge restoration projects at ancient sites. These, and many other attributes, have attracted small and large investors to the city and also the rest of the Island of Majorca.

Building of new structures has been well controlled by local authorities and, as such, the island of Majorca has avoided the uncontrolled, 'build it high, sell it cheap' developments that have blighted other Spanish regions.

Genuine care for the local land and marine environment has also been built into the planning of new communities, which in turn, has preserved the very attractions that visitors came to Majorca for originally, such as clear blue seas with plentiful marine life and unspoilt landscapes of limestone mountains and lush valleys.

New villa and apartment construction on Majorca has been well planned for many years and this forward planning has now paid off. With the island regarded as a quality destination for tourists and therefore, by definition, a quality real estate investment for foreign real estate company's and individuals.

The majority of this investment, in the city and all around the island, has come mainly from British interests. This has resulted in a very large, British, Majorca based community, with its own clubs and associations throughout the island. But, because of the good planning, mentioned earlier, this invasion of UK and other European nationals has not upset the balance of foreign to Spanish ownership on Majorca. Therefore, non Spanish investors still find themselves very welcome on the island.
