Police prepare for the final of Sunday
THE Central Government Delegate to the Balearics, Ramon Socias, admitted yesterday that he obviously wants Spain to win Sunday’s World Cup final against Holland, but what he does not want are any incidents between football fans in the Balearics.
An estimated 8'000 fans celebrated into the early hours of yesterday morning in the Plaza de las Tortugas in front of C&A in Palma, the traditional gathering point for fans after Spanish sporting victories and yesterday Socias said that all of the police forces will be stepping up security, mainly for public safety reasons, for this Sunday night’s final which kicks off at 8.30pm and will spark celebrations on a scale never seen before if Spain win. Socias explained that there will be a heavy police presence in the traditional locations where Spanish fans celebrate but there will also be units keeping an eye on areas where there are going to be concentrations of Dutch fans to prevent any post match disorder.
